Middelburg is the third town to adopt the Bible Reading Marathon in South Africa, independently to the original marathon in Despatch (which later moved to Kariega (Uitenhage)). Each town’s Bible Reading Marathon is organised independently, but utilises resources provided by the original organisers of the Bible Reading Marathon in South Africa.

The Bible Reading Marathon in Middelburg was held at the Lofdal PPK from 19 Oktober 2023 to 22 Oktober 2023 and took 86 hours and 40 minutes to complete.
